In what has turned out to be an unexpected turn of events, a motorbike rider has taken his Busia County boss, Governor Paul Otuoma, to court after the governor kicked him at a recent seed distribution event.
Through his lawyer, Danstan Omari, the boda boda rider, Yusuf Hamisi, on March 18, 2026, demanded that Governor Otuoma pay him Sh100 million in damages.
According to Omari, his client sustained injuries to his groin from Otuoma’s kick. That was not all; he further alleged that Hamisi was also manhandled by Otuoma’s security team, leaving him with additional injuries.
Omari stated that, due to the attack on his client, Governor Otuoma violated Chapter 6 of Kenya’s Constitution.
“We are seeking that our client be compensated. We are not sure whether his reproductive system has been damaged or if other conditions could emerge, and therefore we are seeking compensation of Sh100 million,” Danstan Omari said.
Omari, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, stated that even after the incident, his client went through a lot, including police allegedly declining to record his statement, as well as the governor allegedly blocking access to medical care.
The lawyer claimed that Paul Otuoma called hospitals in Busia and the neighbouring county of Siaya, ordering them not to attend to Yusuf Hamisi.
Danstan Omari further stated that what the governor did to the Boda Boda rider warrants impeachment, calling on the court to issue orders to the Speaker and the County Assembly of Busia to oust Otuoma.
