Dr Fred Matiang’i, a man who held multiple Cabinet positions during Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, is definitely a figure who has drawn public interest in the country for years now.
From serving as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and Technology to the Education Ministry and later the Interior Ministry, Fred Matiang’i held high-profile positions that many would only dream of.
Although he has been in the public eye for over 10 years now, Matiang’i has managed to keep his family private, with few appearances by either his wife or children.
With his family leading a low-key lifestyle, his daughter, Wendy Bochere Okengo, seemingly became the first of the Matiang’i family members to hold a remarkable event that attracted the attention of the nation.
Times Digital Kenya explores Wendy’s life and the star-studded wedding that introduced her to the public a few years ago.
Star-studded Wedding
While her father, Fred Matiang’i, is often at the center of the nation’s most intense politics, Wendy leads a life shielded away from the limelight.
However, her privacy was broken at one point on December 27, 2024, when she held a star-studded wedding. The event, held in Nairobi, saw Wendy Bochere Okengo wed her partner, Frankline Kashindi Luseno.

It was at this event that high-profile figures from the previous government reconnected, led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was the chief guest.
Others included former Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Sam Ongeri, a veteran politician and former senator, Joe Mucheru, the former ICT Cabinet Secretary, and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

Following her wedding, Wendy Bochere went back to her “roots,” where she keeps her personal and professional life out of the media glare.
Even now, with her father, Fred Matiang’i, eyeing the presidential seat, she has not been seen at public events or escorting him to any.
