Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has condemned President William Ruto’s administration, linking it to attacks during opposition events on Sunday.
In a post on X on January 11, hours after attending a sermon at AIPCA Kiamuoria in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, the former Deputy President claimed that the state unleashed goons who attacked women and children during the church service, as well as his convoy later in the day.
Gachagua further stated that police officers present during the incidents only protected the goons who disrupted the opposition’s Sunday meetings, leaving some congregants nursing injuries.
“It is unfortunate that police were protecting goons instead of innocent citizens. Frustrated that the goons they were escorting and guarding were overwhelmed, they lobbed tear gas canisters inside the church, injuring women, children, and congregants,” Gachagua said.
The opposition principal praised his supporters for standing firm against intimidation, noting that they did not allow goons and state-sponsored officers to disrupt their Sunday meetings.
Rigathi Gachagua said that the protection was given not only to the church and a home mourning four departed loved ones, but also to DCP’s five rallies in the region.
“They protected the church, women, children, the home mourning four departed souls, and the five public rallies we held,” Gachagua added.
He concluded by issuing a caution to President William Ruto, warning that the violence against the Mt. Kenya people could affect his chances in the 2027 General Election.
“William Ruto must know that continued violence against the mountain people only hardens their resolve to send him home on 10th August 2027,” the former DP said.
Gachagua’s visit to Gatundu South comes as President Ruto attended a church in Nyeri, where he was accompanied by Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a well-known ally of the former Deputy President.
During the event, Governor Kahiga stated that he is still a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, reminding everyone that he voted for President Ruto in 2022, which raised eyebrows over his ties to Gachagua.
