Guinness World Records Sends Message to Truphena Muthoni

The Guinness World Records has sent a message to Truphena Muthoni following her application to be recognized for hugging a tree for an extended period.

In a screenshot of an email message shared by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga on 12 December, Guinness World Records confirmed Truphena Muthoni as the Longest Marathon Hugging a Tree title holder after her application was approved.

Although this message comes a day after the 22-year-old reportedly completed 72 hours hugging a tree, Guinness World Records only approved her previous attempt of 48 hours.

“Dear Truphena Muthoni,

We are thrilled to inform you that your application for the Longest Marathon Hugging a Tree has been successful, and you are now the Guinness World Records Title Holder,” the message from Guinness World Records read.

Under Application Reference: 240924013659lmha, Guinness World Records outlined the next steps for Truphena Muthoni while giving her access to the Record Holder Zone.

The Record Holder Zone allows her to purchase record holder certificates and merchandise that are only available to record holders, and also get a free Digital Record Breaker badge.

On their website, the Guinness World Records’ latest update recognized Truphena as the Longest Marathon Hugging a Tree for 48 hours, which she achieved in Nairobi from 31 January to 2 February 2025.

“The Longest Marathon Hugging a Tree for 48 hours was achieved by Truphena Muthoni (Kenya) in Nairobi, Kenya, from 31 January to 2 February 2025,” the statement reads.

On their social media platforms, they also confirmed their recognition of her efforts, stating they are looking forward to receiving and assessing the evidence of her new 72-hour tree-hugging attempt.

“We know Truphena’s fans are excited to hear the results, and we look forward to receiving and assessing the evidence. For now, her current record stands at 48 hours, achieved earlier this year in Nairobi,” Guinness World Records statement.

Meanwhile, Mutahi Kahiga, the Nyeri County Governor, urged Guinness World Records to approve Truphena Muthoni for breaking her own record after her 72-hour tree hug, which took place between 8 and 11 December.

In a statement on Facebook, Kahiga asked Kenyans to continue putting pressure on Guinness World Records to officially acknowledge her latest achievement.

“Finally, Truphena Muthoni has been recognized as the world record holder for the longest tree hug of 48 hours. Thank you, Kenyans, for piling on the pressure. We want them to recognize the 72-hour hug too!” Mutahi Kahiga said here.

This comes after Kenyans flooded social media asking Guinness World Records to recognize Truphena Muthoni for her latest tree-hugging feat, which lasted 72 hours and was completed on 11 December.

In response, Guinness World Records urged her team to provide evidence promptly so she can be recognized as the world title holder for hugging a tree for 72 hours, surpassing her previous record of 48 hours.
