It is no secret that former President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoyed state privileges during both his childhood and adulthood. During this period, Uhuru spent an average of 24 years calling State House home.

When it came time to exit the State House, he moved to his private residences, some of which he had owned even before becoming head of state. Uhuru, who comes from one of Kenya’s wealthiest families, owns several expensive homes where he now resides.

Times Digital Kenya walks you through some of the places where Uhuru Kenyatta lives following his retirement as Kenya’s President.

Ichaweri Home, Gatundu

After his retirement in 2022, Uhuru Kenyatta moved back to his rural Ichaweri home in Gatundu South. This saw the road leading to the multimillion-shilling home tarmacked as a mark of respect for the former head of state.

The residence also holds rich historical value, as the same compound has the house where Kenya’s first president and Uhuru’s father, Jomo Kenyatta, once lived. Today, it is one of the homes where Uhuru Kenyatta stays from time to time.

Aside from being a family home, Uhuru also hosts high-profile meetings with leaders from Kenya as well as from other countries.

Gicheha farm in Nakuru County

Apart from his home in his rural village, Uhuru Kenyatta owns another multimillion-shilling property in Gicheha, Nakuru County.

Located off the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, the 4,000-acre farm is home to over 1,000 livestock and several plantations.

With exotic animals forming a major part of the livestock, most were imported from outside the country, including Ankole cows, Boer goats, Brahman cattle, and others.

Oloolmongi Ranch, Kajiado

Situated in the Transmara area, bordering the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the 1,000-acre ranch is another property where Uhuru Kenyatta spends time in retirement.

Although he reportedly purchased it from the Olerien and Kengani Group around 2020, the former president added it to his collection of private residences and has since turned it into one of the places where he rests away from the city and political noise.
