At the event attended by friends and family of Beryl Achieng Odinga on December 6 in Bondo, Mama Ida had to intervene as some family members were giving a eulogy of the deceased when a section of mourners disrupted the event.

Ida said that she was speaking on behalf of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family and called for respect and peace during the burial of Beryl. She called out the section of young people outside the tent for making noise, adding that they had been sent by politicians.

“The young people outside the tent, can you hear me? My name is Ida Odinga and I’m talking on behalf of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family. Young people who are making noise outside the tent, please keep quiet so that we send our sister off in peace,” Ida Odinga said here.

Mama Ida Odinga went on to claim that the young people were representing a politician and that they were there to disorganise the burial event.

She concluded by saying that if all they came to do was cause chaos, they should leave to allow the ceremony to remain silent.

“We aren’t interested in your politics. Whether you’re supporting a politician or not, we are not interested. If you came here and Beryl is not your sister or friend, keep quiet or go away. I hear you are students of Jaramogi Oginga University; that doesn’t give you the right to disorganise our sister’s burial,” she added.

Beryl Achieng Odinga’s burial at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo was attended by family members, including ODM party boss and elder brother Oburu Odinga, Ruth Odinga (younger sister), her children, the late Raila Odinga’s family, and many others.
