Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has disowned a 36-year-old woman, claiming she is not his biological daughter.
In a case filed by Muthama, Christiana Wahu, who has been under his care for some time, initially had her father registered as James Ndichu on her birth certificate. However, Wahu’s birth certificate now indicates that Muthama is her father.
Muthama has moved to court seeking to have his name removed from the woman’s birth certificate.
According to him, he had been financially supporting Wahu, including paying school fees, but asserted that he was not her father.
Apart from her birth certificate, her identification card as well as passport also indicate that Wahu is Muthama’s daughter. Muthama accuses Nina Maria, Wahu’s mother, of obtaining the crucial document (birth certificate) using his credentials in 1998.
According to the former Machakos Senator, Wahu was born on December 25, 1989, in Mombasa, and her birth certificate was issued on January 8, 1990.
Muthama further explained that the father listed on Christiana Wahu’s birth certificate is James Ndichu Githinji, while the mother is Nina Maria Wanjiku Straulino.
He stated that on January 20, 1998, Maria obtained another birth certificate listing him as Wahu’s father and also altered her place of birth.

Johnson Muthama said that when he became aware of what he calls forgery of the documents, he moved to Kilimani Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, where he reported the matter.
“The forgery was unlawfully relied upon to procure government documents, including a Kenyan passport and a national identification card, perpetuating the falsehood,” Muthama claimed.
He said that despite Wahu not being his biological daughter, he paid her school fees as a goodwill gesture. While insisting he is not her father, Johnson Muthama said the only solution is for all of Wahu’s documents to be recalled and cancelled.
