The incident occurred during a rally in Kayole, Nairobi, on Sunday, November 9, where Gachagua, the party leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), was drumming up support for his political outfit when the defiant youths interrupted him with the popular slogan.

A viral video circulating on social media shows young Kayole residents echoing the ‘two term’ slogan associated with President William Ruto in front of Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the video seen by Times Digital Kenya, the rebellious youths quickly caught the attention of former Deputy President Gachagua, who watched them while smiling.

The incident, which has since gone viral, attracted widespread reactions on social media. Some netizens claimed that the defiant youths were hired by Gachagua’s political rivals to disrupt his rally in the capital, while others argued that the young men were simply drunkards.

Another social media user, Judy Karuri, stated that no one was shocked by the youths, claiming they were drunk: “Who is shocked by drunkards really? Desperation is real.”

Symo Sonya Muiruri said: “Hehe, ati tutam… we know these goons.”

Allan Mwas said that they were aware of the goons, which is why they were only on one side of the event: “We know these goons, ndo maana ady wako pande moja.

One-Term vs Two-Term factions

This comes at a time when former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, along with other leaders in the United Opposition camp including Wiper Party boss Kalonzo Musyoka and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, are portraying President William Ruto as a one-term leader.

On the other hand, Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza camp maintain that their administration will continue beyond 2027, despite the opposition’s calls to take over the country’s leadership in the forthcoming general election
