Despite claims of strict adherence to the rule of law, Kenya has in the recent years witnessed disturbing cases involving brutal murders of innocent victims.

Often orchestrated by self-confessed psychopathic serial killers, such grave violation of human rights continues to instil paralysing fear among Kenyans. Here are some of Kenya’s most infamous serial killers whose brutality was nothing but psychopathic.

Jumaisi Khalusha

In July 2024, 33-year-old Jumaisi Khalusha was arrested after authorities discovered several victims in a Mukuru quarry. According to reports, Khalusha had a pattern of luring women, causing them serious harm, and disposing of the remains in the quarry area

Often referred to as the ‘Mukuru Vampire’, Khalusha was found guilty of killing around 42 women between 2022 and 2024. Police described him as a psychopathic murderer with no regard for human life. Notably, his first victim was his own wife. Khalusha escaped from prison in August 2024, exposing serious cracks in the system.

Philip Onyancha

In 2010, 32-year-old Onyancha confessed to luring and harming women and girls. Authorities reported that his actions were linked to a ritualistic practice, which led to his arrest and prosecution.

To justify his brutal stance, Onyancha opened up about being a member of a cult that promised him fortunes after killing over 100 women and girls. According to a report by the BBC, when Onyancha was arrested, he had already killed 17 innocent women and girls. His case revealed the secret existence of dangerous cult networks in the country.

Milimu Wanjala

From 2016 until his arrest in 2021, Wanjala posed as a football coach to lure young boys aged 12 to 14. He was later arrested for his criminal activities and brought to justice. According to authorities, Wanjala acted alone in committing serious crimes against his victims.

After his arrest, he confessed to having taken the lives of at least 10 boys and also revealed the terrifying location where he used to dump the remains of his unfortunate victims. As fate would have it, days after escaping from prison in October 2021, Wanjala was finally lynched by a furious mob in his native village.
