Just a few months later, she made a major comeback following the death of her father, Mutula Kilonzo.
This is after the youthful lawyer publicly declared that she was interested in contesting for the Makueni senatorial seat, which had fallen vacant after her father’s passing.
What happened to Kethi Kilonzo during her ‘short’ political career?
Shortly after she had declared to vie for the Makueni Senate seat, Kethi Kilonzo publicly dropped out of the contest.
Why did she drop her bid to become the first female senator in Kenya?
She dropped out of the race citing that it would be a curse to compete with her own mother. This saw her brother Mutula Kilonzo junior successfully vie for the seat via Wiper party.
Mutula Kilonzo junior is now the governor of Makueni County after serving as the senator of the region for about 10 years. Since then, Kethi has never shown interest in politics again making her political career very short having not been elected during the time.

The daughter of Mutula Kilonzo is a well educated lady with several accolades. She first joined University of Nairobi in Kenya 1997 where she studied law. Kethi would later join Kenya school of law for a diploma before being admitted to the bar.
Later, Kethi rejoined University of Nairobi where she did a masters in public finance.
In addition, Kethi Kenya’s top student in 2006 audit exams conducted by Association of Certified Accountants.
