Former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i has intensified his presidential ambitions by vowing to restore a key maternal health program if elected as president of Kenya in 2027.
While addressing a church gathering at PCEA Muguga Parish on Sunday, 11, January 2026, Matiang’i, through a direct appeal to voters, positioned himself as the servant leader that Kenya needs to restore progress in the country.
The former Cabinet Secretary vowed to restore the Linda Mama program, which was implemented during Uhuru Kenyatta’s government to ensure mothers receive safe childbirth services without spending a penny.
“I pledge to reinstate the Linda Mama program, a vital initiative that will ensure every mother receives safe and dignified childbirth without paying anything,” Matiang’i declared.
Matiang’i, a presidential aspirant under the Jubilee Party, made the pledge following his recent court victory last week, which saw corruption charges that had threatened his ambitions dismissed.
“When I am President of Kenya, as part of an initiative to ensure a more equitable society for all, I will ensure no woman will ever face financial barriers to quality healthcare during pregnancy and delivery” Matiang’i added
Linda Mama Revival
Launched during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, the Linda Mama program enabled free maternity care. However, this arrangement was halted after President William Ruto came into power, sparking debate over the rising healthcare costs.
As the country struggles with tough economic conditions, including increasing unemployment and inflation, Matiang’i’s focus on maternal healthcare could appeal to women voters, who are a crucial demographic during elections.

Although most opposition leaders remain silent about his recent mobilisation stance, Fred Matiang’i’s nationwide tour and momentum are definitely heating up the 2027 race, with faith, policy, and regional alliances at play.
