
Known not only for his controversial political career but also for his flamboyant lifestyle, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is among the richest leaders in the country.
From owning properties to running businesses and engaging in philanthropy that has helped hundreds of less-privileged people across different parts of Kenya, Sonko has built a notable public profile.
Although his tenure as Nairobi Governor ended controversially following his impeachment, Sonko has continued to live a lavish lifestyle and is not shy about displaying it. With expensive cars, designer clothes, and luxurious houses, Mike Sonko seemingly has it all. In terms of investments, he is involved in various sectors of the economy.
Times Digital Kenya takes a look at some of the properties and investments from which he earns millions.
Palatial Residences
One of the properties in Mike Sonko’s vast multi-billion-shilling portfolio is his Mua Hills mansion in Machakos County. The property, which is believed to be worth around KSh 150 million, serves as his primary rural residence.
Also among his luxurious homes are a beach house in Malindi on the Coast and a palatial mansion in Runda, Nairobi City.
Hospitality & Entertainment
Apart from his private residences, Mike Sonko has also invested in the hospitality and entertainment industry.
In this sector, he owns Salama Bling Beach Resort, a luxury 3.5-star Swahili-style hotel located in Mtwapa. In addition, he owns entertainment venues and hotels such as Club Volume and Kimereta Hotel.
High-end vehicles
Mike Sonko also has investments in land holdings, especially in the Coast region. In a past interview with local TV station NTV, he said he owns at least 1,000 title deeds for his genuine properties.
Among his assets are commercial plots and land across Nairobi, including high-profile land in the Upper Hill financial district.

For personal and business purposes, the former Nairobi Governor maintains a large fleet of cars. Transport was one of his key business ventures in the past, and he previously owned a number of matatus operating in Nairobi.

Among his several private vehicles are customized utility vehicles, luxury saloons, and SUVs. In an interview with NTV, he said that together with his family, they drive at least 200 cars.
