Wetangula Pens an Emotional Message Honoring his Late Brother

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has shared a heartfelt message following the final send-off of his elder brother, James Mukhwana Wetang’ula.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) after the funeral ceremony at James’s home in Tuuti Kibabii, Bungoma County, on December 19, Wetang’ula celebrated his late brother’s life, describing him as a mentor to many.

The Speaker further noted that he will remember James not only as a friend, adviser, and confidant but also as a man deeply rooted in the Catholic faith, a value he instilled in his family.

“Death has robbed us of a dignified leader, my dear brother & mentor to many. Grief has engulfed us, but we must stay strong and continue the legacy of my departed brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula. I am grateful that my brother passed on after living a good and dignified life,” Moses Wetang’ula said.

The ceremony was attended by various leaders, including Wetangula’s younger brother, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, as well as hundreds of supporters.

Moses Wetang’ula took the opportunity to urge the people of the Western bloc to unite and work as a team to help transform the region.

During the event, Wetang’ula also reassured residents of President William Ruto’s commitment to improving and reviving stalled infrastructure.

“I assured the people of the President’s commitment to revive stalled infrastructure projects within the region, citing the revival of sugar mills like Nzoia Sugar factory as part of the wider transformative plan,” Wetang’ula added.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, the younger brother of Moses Wetangula, also shared a moving tribute mourning James Mukhwana. He recalled the moments shared with his late elder brother, noting that his wise counsel helped shape the person he is today.

“When I look back and remember the times we shared, I see the wise counsel you always passed on to me,” Wanyonyi said.

James Mukhwana Wetangula passed away on December 10, leaving behind a wife and children. He was the son of Dominic Khaemba and the eldest of the Wetangula siblings
