He was famous for accompanying the former prime minister in public places, and he was perceived to be very keen on keeping his boss secure. From local events to international duties, Oduor would make sure that Raila was protected from any danger. Sadly, he has passed on. His services to the ODM boss will always be remembered and appreciated.

A section of Kenyans has expressed their disbelief following the demise of Raila’s bodyguard. Also, popular leaders including Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai and Phillip Etale were saddened by the sudden death of George Oduor.

Rest in peace, my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance,” Alai said on his X account.

Etale also expressed his disbelief on social media as seen below;

You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us,” ODM communications director Philip Etale

Another public figure who shared an emotional message after the death of Raila’s bodyguard is Jarunda Jaluth. He described Oduor as a loyal servant who had adequate qualifications to protect Raila Odinga.

It’s truly sad to hear about the passing of George Odiwuor (the long-serving and uniquely trained across various countries like Russia, Israel, the USA, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Morocco, Norway, and China, among others). He could smell danger 20 km away. His loyalty and dedication to his work must have made him a highly respected figure. With someone so experienced, it’s understandable that he would carry a wealth of knowledge and secrets, particularly regarding the Enigma, which hints at some fascinating, yet mysterious, aspects of his life and career. May his soul rest in peace, and may those close to him find strength during this time.” Jarunda

Hours after his death, Raila Odinga sent a condoling message to his late bodyguard. Odinga described him as a dedicated servant, having been part of the Oginga Odinga family since the late 80s. Furthermore, the ODM chief sends condolences to Odour’s wife, Carol George, and their entire family.

It is with profound shock and sadness that I announce the passing of my personal aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, this evening in Nairobi after a short illness. George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 80’s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods.” Raila said
