In a social media statement on December 4, following the signing of the historic Health Cooperation Framework between Kenya and the United States government in Washington, D.C., President Ruto said the funds will help achieve universal health coverage in the country.

According to Ruto, the Government of President Donald Trump will commit 1.6 billion dollars (Ksh207 billion) to Kenya over the next five years.

The President added that the funds will be channeled directly through government institutions, thus eliminating third-party intermediaries.

“Under this agreement, the United States will commit 1.6 billion dollars to Kenya over the next five yearsβ€”resources that will be channelled directly through government institutions, eliminating third-party intermediaries and guaranteeing that support reaches the intended beneficiaries for maximum impact and accountability,” Ruto said.

These funds will help transform the health sector in Kenya by providing not only modern medical equipment but also ensuring the timely delivery of essential health commodities to hospitals.

In addition, they will support the upscaling of Kenya’s health workforce and the expansion of health insurance.
