Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Samuel Nyamweya has declared candidacy for the FKF presidency. The veteran football guru is expected to run for the top seat that runs football in Kenya later this year. Samuel Nyamweya made this announcement a few days after he attended the FKF general meeting as an observer.
The ex-football boss vowed to raise the standards of men’s and women’s football. If elected, Nyamweya promised to work hard so that the national team could reach greater heights. He has also revealed his plans to do away with match fixing in the country.
“The national teams are the face of football in the country. When they are not performing. Everyone loses hope. I have to work on that…”Nyamweya
Nyamweya has huge experience running the Football Federation, having served as FKF boss from 2011 to 2016. The vocal ex-FKF boss will be seeking to ascend to the seat held by the current president, Nick Mwendwa.
FKF elections
FKF gave the road map to its general election just a few days ago. This is after the Football Kenya Federation held a special meeting, which resulted in the formation of a new electoral board.
The board will be responsible for conducting the FKF election, and former Boss Samuel Nyamweya will be on the ballot. Earlier this year, FKF’s elections were put on hold after the Annual General Meeting was stopped via court orders.
After FKF’s AGM on 24 August, it is expected that the polls will be held before December 2024. This comes as Kenya is on the verge of hosting AFCON alongside the other East African nations. A new management in the FKF will be very crucial in the preparation of the AFCON, which is due in 3 years.
