Construction of Shs 3.5 Billion World-Class Stadium in Nandi Kicks Off

In a major boost to Kenya’s sports infrastructure, the government of President William Ruto has officially initiated the construction of the proposed Kapsabet Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

In a statement on X following the groundbreaking of the stadium in Nandi County on December 5, Cabinet Secretary for Defence Soipan Tuya highlighted the project’s significance.

The CS stated that the proposed stadium will feature not only a 400-meter mixed-surface track but also a standard football field with a 10,000-capacity seating area.

“Later during the day in Nandi, we did groundbreaking for the proposed Kapsabet Kipchoge Keino Stadium, which will feature a 400-meter mixed-surface track and a standard football field, alongside a 10,000-capacity seating area,” Soipan Tuya said.

CS Tuya further stated that the Kapsabet Kipchoge Keino Stadium, which will be of world-class status when completed, will help nurture athletes in Nandi, thereby producing more talented individuals in the county.

She explained that Kenya, renowned for its prowess in athletics, will benefit from the enhanced sports infrastructure.

“In particular, this project will enhance sports excellence in Nandi County, a region celebrated for producing outstanding athletes,” the Defence CS added.

CS Soipan Tuya was accompanied by other leaders, including Nandi Governor Hon. Stephen Sang, his Deputy Dr. Yulita Mitei, Tinderet MP Hon. Julius Kibiwot Melly, and Emgwen MP Hon. Josses Lelmengit. Also present was Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Chief of Infrastructure at the Kenya Defence Forces.

The Kipchoge Keino Stadium project is set to be completed at a cost of Sh3.5 billion within the next few months, ahead of the AFCON games in 2027.
