“Unite Behind Matiang’i, or Prepare for Ruto’s 2nd Term,” – Warns Wahome Thuku

Wahome Thuku, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, has sent a stern warning to the opposition camp that President William Ruto will win if they fail to unite.

In a social media post on Friday 28, the vocal lawyer called upon the United Opposition to rally behind former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as the sole presidential candidate, or else President Ruto will retain the top seat for a second term.

Wahome Thuku, a loyalist of the opposition camp, insisted that his statement is a fact and not up for debate.

“THE solid truth. If Dr. Fred Matiang’i will not be the SOLE opposition presidential candidate, prepare for Ruto’s second term. And it’s not even open for debate,” Wahome Thuku said.

The lawyer’s remarks come after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), both part of the broad-based government, won the majority of seats in the recent by-elections across the country.

For instance, President William Ruto’s UDA strengthened its presence in the Mt. Kenya region after defeating the opposition candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, a region perceived to be a stronghold of Rigathi Gachagua and his allies.

Meanwhile, President Ruto expressed confidence as the country heads to the 2027 General Election during his tour of Kiambu and Nakuru County on Friday 28, noting that his side had won all 7 out of 7 MP and Senate seats in the by-elections.

Ruto stated that the broad-based government’s victory is an indication of what to expect in the general election, adding that the opposition has no chance of unseating him. The Head of State further criticized the United Opposition for lacking a clear plan for the people, saying they were punished at the ballot during the by-elections, and the same will happen in 2027.
