Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Opiyo Wandayi has asked Kenyans particularly those from Nyanza region to prepare for an alliance between ODM and UDA, ahead of 2027

Speaking on 15th January during the launch of the Rural Electrification Project in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, the Cabinet Secretary revealed ODM’S plan to initiate a political alliance with President Ruto’s UDA, urging supporters to get prepared for this.

“I want to ask the people of Homa Bay to prepare for a possible political alliance between our party, ODM, and Ruto’s UDA. As we surge forward towards the 2027 elections, this strategic coalition will enhance unity and continued project development for our region.” Wandayi said.

The Energy Cabinet Secretary assured residents and Kenyans that a political coalition between the two parties is a strategic move with the potential to enhance development in regions where ODM has solid support, such as Nyanza.

Wandayi’s message comes after ODM’S Central Management Committee meeting that was held earlier this month, where the party leadership deliberated on building upon President Ruto’s broad-based administration to ensure long-term impact.

As a key figure involved in uniting the two parties, ODM and UDA, Wandayi has in the past highlighted the benefits of such a coalition, citing economic progress through accelerated projects such as rural power connectivity, which seeks to light up underserved regions.

According to critics within ODM, such a coalition is set to divert the party’s path. On the other hand, Wandayi’s supporters maintain that this political coalition reflects a pragmatic path toward inclusivity and sustainable development.

Political pundits say that Wandayi’s message underscores the strength of fusing coalition-building strategy with the delivery of developmental projects, as political realignments intensify with the 2027 elections looming.
