Waridi Over 17 Years Later: The Transformation of a Kenyan TV Series Star


Barbara Chepkoech Kiprotich, well known as Waridi, played a vital role in shaping up Kenya’s TV series in the modern era. Her involvement in the Waridi show on Citizen TV in the mid 2000s came at a time the film industry in the country was in a transition.

Initially, Kenyans were used to drama TV shows such as Vitimbi and Vioja Mahakamani, but the Waridi series seemed to be a new dawn. The show mainly focused on the day-to-day activities in society and love among the youths. But it is Barbara Chepkoech ‘Waridi’ who brought life to the show with her seamless acting prowess.

In fact, the young and vibrant actress became everyone’s favorite. This really paved the way for other actors in the industry. However, she left soon as the Waridi TV series ended. Waridi briefly featured in Tahidi High (another TV series) on Citizen TV. She later left and focused on other ventures such as music and, more so, the family.

Waridi’s role on Citizen TV

Barbara was the lead actress in the Waridi series on the Royal Media Services TV station. Here, the young actress had just completed her secondary school education. She was now seeking to look for something that would sustain her life.
It is at this point that Waridi met with various people, with some men eager to win her love.

The young girl was firm, and she only went for what her heart told her. Her kindness and generousity in the show also made her a fan favorite. For instance, her character made her a notable name across the country. 

Life after the show

Waridi tried to remain relevant in the movie industry post Citizen TV. She had a role in the movies ‘Ghetto Hustler’ and Twilight, among other films. Later, she chose a different path, where she ventured into the music industry. Some of her songs include Tilenyun, Josie Josi, and Mekwane Warydi, among others.

Apart from her career, Barbara Chepkoech has faced several challenges. Few years ago, she underwent a surgical process as she gave birth to her twin kids.

Where is Waridi now?

Barbara Chepkoech, alias Waridi, mainly works as a musician. She entertains her fans in the Kalenjin dialect. Additionally, she runs a baby daycare center and a clothes store in the United States of America, Waridi International Daycare.

In 2022, she hosted a ladies-only empowerment event using her platform. Waridi’s social media involvement is not limited either. She posts videos together with her kids and also others that motivate her audience.
