For over a decade, President William Ruto has been one of the most influential politicians in Kenya. With deep roots in the youth wing of Kenya’s second President, Moi, Ruto gained experience in high-level leadership when he served as Deputy President under Uhuru Kenyatta for 10 years. He later went on to become President himself in 2022.

Despite his popularity and fame, his siblings are not involved in Kenya’s politics in any way. In fact, Ruto is the only one among his siblings in politics, with the others having ventured into different fields.

Here, Times Digital Kenya uncovers little-known details about President William Ruto’s siblings.

Paul Maritim Cheruiyot

Paul Maritim Cheruiyot is the eldest in the family of Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot. Unlike his younger brother, who is in politics, Paul ventured into the business world.

He has been mentioned in media interviews, such as a 2022 Daily Nation article, where he spoke about how they were brought up.

In the interview, he also recalled childhood anecdotes about young William Ruto’s early ambitions to become a leader.

Samuel Ruto

Samuel Ruto is another sibling of President William Ruto. He has maintained a low-key lifestyle, just like his elder brother, Paul Maritim Cheruiyot. While he does not appear in public often, Samuel is a businessman.

David Samoei Ruto

David Samoei, the younger brother of President Ruto, is a Kenyan businessman and IT professional.

He has over 20 years of experience in IT, manufacturing, retail, professional services, and consulting. Additionally, David Samoei is the founder and chairman of Kirongosi Group, which focuses on project conceptualization and execution in collaboration with local and national governments.

He reportedly succumbed to kidney cancer, with some reports mentioning complications involving both liver and kidney failure. His death came after he had spent time receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Susan Samoei Ruto

With Ruto’s other siblings being brothers, Susan is the only sister. She has rarely appeared in public, but one occasion she was mentioned in news reports was in 2018, when a man impersonating her to defraud people was arrested. At state events, she is rarely seen with the Head of State.
