Cherargei Cautions ODM Against Falling for Kalonzo’s ‘Political Games’

Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei has termed Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka an opportunist following his visit to Raila Odinga’s home.

Speaking through his social media accounts on Friday, November 7, the vocal United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senator warned Kalonzo against hypocrisy over Raila’s death, despite not supporting him in 2007.

Cherargei claimed that the Wiper Party leader betrayed the late Raila Odinga when it mattered the most in 2007 and, therefore, should not pretend to mourn the former Prime Minister.

The Nandi senator added that Kalonzo’s move is calculated to win the support of the Luo Nation. He warned Raila Odinga’s supporters against falling into the trap of the former Vice President.

“Kalonzo should stop pontificating himself in the death of Baba Raila Odinga, yet he didn’t stand with him when it mattered in 2007. In 2007, Kalonzo sabotaged and betrayed Raila by running against him and later crossed over through a post-election coalition with President Kibaki after the 2007 shambolic elections. Kalonzo is a calculative opportunist that the Luo Nation must shun like a plague!! Baba pod pek,” Cherargei said.

Cherargei’s remarks come a day after Kalonzo Musyoka, together with his political allies, visited Opoda Farm to pay tribute to the late ODM chief.

During the event, Kalonzo highlighted how he had supported Raila Odinga in the previous three general elections as he vied for the presidency. Other leaders allied to Raila Odinga, including James Orengo, also backed Kalonzo, noting that he was the politician who consistently stood with the former Prime Minister in his quest for the top seat.

As such, they rallied support for Kalonzo Musyoka, saying he deserves the backing of Raila’s supporters.
