Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on youths from Mbeere North to turn out at the Gitiburi Primary polling center, claiming that Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has taken control.

In a social media post on Thursday, November 27, the DCP Party leader alleged that CS Ruku chased away all agents from the Gitiburi Primary School polling center immediately after his guards had dispersed protesting members of the public.
“CS Ruku has forcefully taken over the Gitiburi Primary polling center and chased away all agents after his guards opened fire on protesting members of the public,” Rigathi Gachagua said.
Gachagua added that the Cabinet Secretary in President William Ruto’s government stopped the counting of votes after taking control, allegedly with the aim of manipulating the results.
As such, the former Deputy President urged youths aged 18–35 to turn up at the Gitiburi Primary polling center and protect the votes.
“He has stopped the counting and wants to manipulate. All men between the ages of 18 and 35 in the neighborhood should proceed there and reclaim the polling center,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua’s statement comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) began counting votes following the by-election earlier in the day.
Prior to Gachagua’s remarks, the IEBC urged members of both rival camps to maintain peace and order during the tallying of votes.

The electoral body is expected to announce the results of the Mbeere North by-election, as well as those from other parts of the country, as soon as the tallying is complete.
