Democracy for the Citizens Party (Party) leader Rigathi Gachagua has once again slammed President William Ruto following his earlier remarks claiming that the United Opposition is planning positions for only a few leaders.
While attending the burial service of Terry Wanjiru Kariuki, wife of JM Kariuki, on Tuesday, 11 November, in Gilgil Constituency, Nakuru County, the former Deputy President downplayed claims that the opposition is planning to allocate positions to a few leaders, saying instead that they have a plan to unseat President Ruto in 2027.
Gachagua emphasized that the opposition’s priority is to make President William Ruto a one-term president and that government positions would follow later if they succeed in taking him home.
“Nimeona huyu Kasongo jana akilia, akisema ati Kuna wanaume watano wanakutana kugawa serikali. Wewe Bwana Ruto, hao wanaume watano wanakutana, hakuna serikali wanagawa, wanapanga vile utaenda nyumbani. Hio ndio kazi iko mbele. Kazi ya kwanza ni kupeleka Kasongo nyumbani,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President further claimed that Ruto showed “crocodile tears” when he visited Bondo to mourn the late ODM leader Raila Odinga. Gachagua went on to say that the President has been confused since Kalonzo Musyoka was endorsed by Ida Odinga and her family.
“Alienda Bondo, Kisumu kulia machozi ya uongo, akisema analia mambo ya Raila (Odinga). Lakini baada ya kuenda pale (Bondo), Mama Ida Odinga na wengine walisema wanatambua Kalonzo, huyu Ruto amechanganikiwa,” the former DP added.
Gachagua’s remarks come a day after President William Ruto criticized the United Opposition for not having an agenda that would help the nation move forward. Ruto also accused leaders from the opposition camp of planning positions for only a few individuals instead of prioritizing Kenyans.
Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka’s Strong Ties
Just a few days ago, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka visited the Odinga family home to mourn with Raila Odinga’s family. During the event, Ida Odinga and Raila Odinga Junior, among others, described Kalonzo as one of Raila’s most loyal friends.
Governor James Orengo and other leaders also signaled support for the former Vice President as he eyes the presidential seat, highlighting the longstanding alliance between Raila and Kalonzo. Over the years, Kalonzo has stood by Raila, including serving as his running mate in both the 2013 and 2017 elections. In 2022, he backed Raila unconditionally, despite not being offered a constitutional position.
