“Apologize for What?” Gachagua says he Won’t Apologize to Uhuru Kenyatta

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is once again in the spotlight this time after stating that he has no intention of apologizing to Uhuru Kenyatta. Gachagua, who participated in a joint interview with Embu-based media stations on Thursday, October 9, said he saw no reason to apologize to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to a video circulating on social media, one of the interviewers asked Gachagua if he planned to apologize to the former President.

“Do you have plans to apologize to Uhuru Kenyatta?” the journalist asked.

In response, the former Deputy President said that Uhuru Kenyatta had introduced Raila Odinga and William Ruto to the Mt. Kenya region—both of whom he claimed were not good people. Gachagua therefore vowed not to ask for forgiveness from the former President.

“Apologize for what reason? He brought us Raila Odinga, who is not a nice person, and also President Ruto. So I won’t apologize,” Gachagua replied.

While responding to Gachagua’s remarks, former Kikuyu Township MP Ngunjiri Wambugu hit back at the former Deputy President, accusing him of contradicting himself.

Wambugu claimed that Rigathi Gachagua had been apologizing to Uhuru Kenyatta every time he took the microphone in recent months but now appears to have changed his stance.

“GACHAGUA SAYS THERE IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE TO UHURU ABOUT There was a time Gachagua would apologize to Uhuru every time he saw a mic. All the time. Now he has changed his mind and says there was nothing to apologize about ” Ngunjiri said.

Prior to the 2022 General Election, Gachagua was a fierce critic of Uhuru Kenyatta after the latter endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the presidency. However, his stance gradually changed following his fallout with President William Ruto.

He even issued public apologies to Uhuru Kenyatta for the harsh words he had used against him and for disregarding his advice not to support William Ruto. Gachagua’s recent change of tone appears to have been influenced by a meeting between Uhuru Kenyatta and President Ruto at State House a few weeks ago.
