Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has responded after George Aladwa rejected the proposal to be his running mate for the Nairobi Governor seat in 2027.

In a post on X on Wednesday, December 3, Kuria claimed that Aladwa, an ODM member, had been summoned the previous night by powerful figures and pressured to denounce their agreement on the Nairobi Governor ticket.
“George Aladwa was summoned last evening by holders of extremely powerful offices and ordered to denounce our agreement on the Nairobi Governor ticket.” Moses Kuria asserted.
Kuria, the party leader of Chama Cha Kazi (CCM), added that even though he respects Aladwa’s decision, all the forces behind his U-turn should relax, as he is ready to serve as the Nairobi Governor.

Nonetheless, Moses Kuria stated that his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat is not a matter of life and death. He added that by acting this way, the opposing forces had revealed their secret too early, making their 2027 plans clear.
“I respect his decision. I want to tell those forces to relax. I want to be Governor of Nairobi to save this collapsing city. But it’s not a life-and-death affair for me. Again, by doing this you have let the cat out of the bag too early. Now we know your 2027 game plan. Thanks a million!” Kuria added.
Kuria’s statement comes after the Makadara Member of Parliament rejected his proposal to make him his running mate for the Nairobi Governor seat. Instead, Aladwa pledged to contest for the position of Governor of Nairobi under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“I have said I will not be Moses Kuria’s deputy. I have firmly stated that I will be vying for the position of Governor of Nairobi on the ODM party ticket in 2027,” Aladwa said.
On December 1, the former Trade Cabinet Secretary hinted at a possible pact with Aladwa, sharing a photo featuring both their images. Kuria accompanied the photo with a strong message:
“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through. Because we have local, regional and global networks to fix Nairobi. Because we have many years of combined leadership and managerial experience. Because we are not tribal.” Moses Kuria’s post read.

Kuria and Aladwa are among the few leaders keen to contest for Nairobi’s top seat in 2027, alongside other candidates from both the government and the opposition.
Among the top contenders are Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, his Westlands counterpart Tim Wanyonyi, and, of course, incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja, who is seeking a second term.
