Moses Wetangula is the current Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, having been elected on September 8, 2022.
He attended Nalondo Primary School, then joined Teremi Secondary School and Friends School Kamusinga for his A-Level education before being admitted to the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
Over the years, Wetangula, like some of his political peers, has invested in various sectors, including real estate.
In this segment, Times Digital Kenya highlights his real estate investment worth millions of Kenyan shillings as well as his public service.
Engagement in public service spans over forty years
Moses Wetangula began his service in the Judiciary as a magistrate in 1982 and served in various stations across the country, including Kithimani, Machakos, Kisii, and Rongo.
Notably, Wetangula joined the Judiciary at the same time as his immediate predecessor in the National Assembly Assembly, former speaker Justin Muturi.
The Speaker began his political career in 1993 when he was nominated to the 7th Parliament, serving from 1993 until 1997.
He then served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2010 and again from 2011 to 2012, and as Minister for Trade from 2012 to 2013.
Additionally, he held the position for approximately a year before deciding to contest for the Bungoma County Senate seat in the 2013 General Election.
Wetangula’s Real Estate Investment
Apart from politics and public service, Moses Wetangula has built a significant business portfolio focused on real estate and investment alongside his long political career.
Key holdings include high-end residential developments such as the 360 Court Apartments in Syokimau, Machakos County.

The 360° Apartments feature spacious, high-end two-bedroom and three-bedroom units with separate bathrooms, large kitchens, dining and living spaces, as well as stylish fittings.
The area features several amenities, including ample parking spaces and round-the-clock security. It also includes cabro-surfaced driveways and parking bays.
During Alfred Mutua’s tenure as Machakos Governor, he claimed that the apartments associated with the Speaker were built on riparian land.
Recently, Kings Developers noted that the apartments are located along Mombasa Road, five kilometres from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“Each apartment is fitted with modern, stylish fittings, creating an environment of a pleasant lifestyle,” the statement reads.
The estate project has, however, been mired in controversy after Syokimau residents sued the developer in 2012, arguing that it sits on riparian land. Justice L. N. Mutende stopped the construction of two blocks, 15 and 18, just three years later. He also directed that the perimeter wall of the establishment be modified to ensure efficient drainage.
