Having been in Kenya’s leadership for over two decades, President William Ruto is among the country’s most powerful leaders, both politically and financially.
From a Member of Parliament to Deputy President for 10 years, and now President of Kenya, William Ruto has served at almost all levels of leadership.
Apparently, he started out as a chicken seller in his youthful years and has continued engaging in multiple businesses that have enabled him to amass massive wealth.
Ruto’s financial power has seen him own several beautiful properties, including a ranch in Kilgoris, Narok County, where he has a luxurious residence.

In this segment, Times Digital Kenya explores inside Ruto’s Kilgoris ranch/home and some of its dominant features.
History behind William Ruto’s Kilgoris Ranch
Barely 10 years ago, in 2015, Ruto acquired Intona Ranch in Narok County, which was once owned by Kenya’s second Vice President, the late Joseph Murumbi.
The late former Vice President reportedly acquired the land through his mother’s land rights as a Maasai. He later built a 35-room mansion, mainly to serve as a getaway for himself and his family.
While alive, Joseph Murumbi often invited friends to the ranch, with the option of flying in and landing at the compound’s airstrip.
Years after his death, the ranch eventually required a change in ownership, and that is where Ruto came in.
Although its purchase is surrounded by controversy, Ruto is said to have acquired the 900-acre ranch after paying off a defaulted KSh 8.9 million loan that Murumbi owed the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC).

Interestingly, the ranch reportedly neighbours Uhuru Kenyatta’s 1,000-acre ranch in Oloolmongi.
Kilgoris Residence
At the time, the mansion was already in a dilapidated state, having been vandalized, with weeds growing on the cracked walls.

As such, William Ruto took deliberate steps to renovate the 35-room residence, adding improved modern features.
Bordering the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the palatial home offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The property features eco-friendly systems such as water recycling and solar panels.
Additionally, it features spacious living areas, multiple bedrooms, an ultra-modern kitchen, contemporary amenities, and luxurious rooms to host family and guests.
In recent years, William Ruto has prioritized the Kilgoris home for hosting dignitaries, special guests, and, of course, his family.

For instance, during the 2025 festive season, Ruto spent the majority of the year-end holidays with his family members in the Kilgoris bungalow.

Aside from family matters, the home has also turned into a power centre, with William Ruto hosting dignitaries and political leaders, and is often viewed as similar to Daniel Moi’s Kabarak home, where power brokering took place.
