Since her father, William Ruto, assumed office as Kenya’s President, Charlene Ruto has been the most visible child of the first family.

From attending state and public events to interacting with Kenyans from all walks of life, Charlene has attracted both love and criticism.

Apart from her public engagements and social life, she has seemingly invested in enterprises across several sectors, including hospitality. She is also involved in her influential family’s businesses.

Here are four companies owned by the first daughter, Charlene Ruto:

Real estate and hospitality investment

Charlene is a minority shareholder in Matiny Ltd, a company involved in hospitality and real estate, including links to properties like Weston Hotel.

Since 2015 to 2018, the company leased 170 apartments to the National Police Service (NPS), but the contract was terminated by NPS in 2018.

Youth network

The Young People’s Network International, a youth-led NGO focused on empowering young people through connection, growth, leadership development, community engagement, and positive transformation, was founded by Charlene in September 2023. Here, Charlene Ruto serves as its CEO and Founder.

It operates as a membership-based, youth-focused initiative with a global reach, though it is particularly active in Kenya.

SMACHs Foundation

The first daughter is the founder, CEO, and patron of the Smart Mechanized Agriculture and Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability (SMACHS) Foundation.

This is a non-profit/philanthropic initiative focused on agriculture, climate action, and youth empowerment.

Farming

Just like her dad, Charlene Ruto seems to have a passion for farming. Her main farm is a lucrative mixed farming operation in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

She practices diversified agriculture there, growing crops such as mangoes, sunflowers, wheat, capsicum, beans, maize, cabbage, just to name a few.
