How Rigathi Gachagua’s Family Controls 22 Companies

Having served as a Member of Parliament for five years before becoming Deputy President for two and a half years, Rigathi Gachagua has had a relatively short spell in active politics.

Even before holding any elective posts, Gachagua had close associations with key politicians in the country.

He first worked as a personal assistant to former President Uhuru Kenyatta for several years and later became a trusted confidant of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua, during his tenure as Governor of Nyeri County.

Through these connections, the former Deputy President has amassed significant wealth, publicly acknowledging that he earned most of it during Mwai Kibaki’s regime.

Gachagua, along with his family, has invested in numerous companies, generating substantial wealth, mostly within Kenya.

Here, Times Digital Kenya highlights some of the businesses and investments associated with Gachagua and his family, including his wife and two sons.

Rigathi Gachagua Foundation

Going by the name Rigathi Gachagua, the foundation is a non-profit entity. It was founded in 2022 to uplift the less privileged and has since received at least KSh 12 million.

Dorcas Rigathi Foundation

Incorporated by Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the foundation was launched in 2022. It is a non-profit entity that rehabilitates drug addicts and supports widows, single mothers, and orphans. It is part of companies associated with the Gachagua family.

Spirit Way Limited

The company is linked to Gachagua’s wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. Incorporated in 2023, Gachagua denied that it was involved in any trade, stating that it does not have a bank account and has never conducted business.

Calvary Creed International Limited

Records indicate that Pastor Dorcas Rigathi owns the majority of the shares—950 shares—while Rigathi Gachagua owns the remaining 50 shares.

Mothers of the Land Limited

The company was listed among 22 entities in the October 2024 impeachment motion against Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Gachagua, Mothers of the Land Limited was incorporated in 2021 but has never traded nor had a bank account.

The Anansi Collective

The entity was identified as a business name registered in 2021 by Gachagua’s son, Dr. Keith Rigathi. In his defense during the impeachment motion, Rigathi Gachagua stated that The Anansi Collective has never traded and does not have a bank account.

Grand Bypass Apartments Limited

It is owned by Vipingo Beach Resort Limited, which is associated with the estate of Gachagua’s late brother, Nderitu Gachagua.

Vipingo Beach Resort Limited

Vipingo Beach Resort Limited is another company run by Gachagua’s family. It is officially registered under the estate of the late Nderitu Gachagua, brother to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

While linked to the Gachagua family estate, allegations made during the impeachment proceedings suggested the property was acquired using proxies or belongs to the family’s broader portfolio managed by his sons.

Fortis Vis Group Limited

Registered in February 2023, the company is associated with the family’s business portfolio, though Gachagua has claimed it has not traded. It is owned by Kevin and Keith Rigathi, the sons of former Deputy President, with each holding 50 shares.

Pioneer Medical (K) Limited

The company is also linked to Rigathi Gachagua’s family. According to statements made by Gachagua, Pioneer Medical Limited was established before he assumed office as Deputy President. He also stated that it has not engaged in any business transactions over the past ten years.

Ridor Furniture Mart Limited

Ridor Furniture Mart is part of the corporate network linked to Rigathi Gachagua’s family. Although launched for furniture, it is currently engaged in managing rental properties.

Biovet (K) Limited

Both Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and Rigathi Gachagua are joint shareholders, each owning 200 shares. The company was registered in June 2009.

Morani Manufacturers Limited

The company, registered in 2021, has also been linked to the family of Rigathi Gachagua wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi their son, Keith Rigathi.

The company is reported to be majority-owned by businessman Joshua Karianjahi Waiganjo

Delta Merchants

It is among the 22 companies associated with the former Deputy President’s family.

Cosmere Venture Limited

Cosmere Venture Limited was established in 2018. According to Rigathi Gachagua, it never conducted any business with the government during his time as Deputy President.

Wamunyoro Investments Limited

This is another company linked to Rigathi Gachagua. He acts as Managing Director and gained prominence due to a legal dispute over a Sh1.5 billion property near JKIA. In March 2024, the Environment and Lands Court ruled that Wamunyoro is the lawful owner, ordering the cancellation of a competing title.

Royal Crimson Ventures Limited

It is among the 22 companies linked to Gachagua’s family.

Kuruwitu Properties Limited

The company is part of the estate of Rigathi Gachagua’s late brother, Nderitu Gachagua. It is directly owned by Vipingo Beach Resort Limited, which is also part of the late Nderitu Gachagua’s estate.

Crystal Kenya Limited

The company, which acquired the Outspan Hotel and Treetops Hotel in 2023, is owned by Gachagua’s sons, Kevin and Keith. It was highlighted as a proxy company during his impeachment proceedings.

Heartland Supplies Limited

The company is owned by Rigathi Gachagua and his spouse, with each holding an equal stake of 200 shares. In his defense against impeachment charges in October 2024, Gachagua stated that Heartland Supplies Limited has not traded in the last 10 years.

Karandi Farm Limited

Karandi Farm Limited was the entity that previously owned the disputed land near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before it was transferred to Wamunyoro Investments Limited, which is owned by Gachagua and his wife.

Technical Supplies and Services (K) Limited

The company was identified as part of the entities involved in transactions investigated by the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) and was highlighted during impeachment proceedings against Gachagua. In his defense during the proceedings in October 2024, the former DP claimed that the company had not traded in the previous ten years.
