In Kenya, for one to contest for the presidential seat, they must meet certain educational requirements. According to the IEBC, a presidential candidate must hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya.

This educational requirement ensures that the individual has the necessary knowledge and critical thinking skills to lead the nation.

As a result, most of those willing to vie for the country’s top seat ensure they meet the educational requirements so as not to be disqualified.

Since a degree is a necessity, some of the opposition principals have educational qualifications that make them eligible to run for the presidency.

In this segment, Times Digital Kenya looks at the educational qualifications of Kenya’s top opposition leaders who seek to be on the ballot for the presidency in 2027.

Fred Matiang’i

Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the presidential candidate for the Jubilee Party, is undoubtedly one of the most highly educated politicians in Kenya.

Having attended Kisii High School for his A-levels, Matiang’i proceeded to earn a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University.
