While speaking on the Nation media TV station, Gachagua spoke about the ongoing National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) saga. This is as the Kenya Kwanza is championing for a new program, the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). As of the moment, the transition from NHIF to SHIF is progressing.

Now, Gachagua has claimed that the upgrade of NHIF would have cost between Shs700 million and Shs800 million. The former DP further cited that the government’s decision for a new program would cost Sh 104 billion.

“Kenyans need to speak out. Ksh. 104 billion is not Ksh. 104. It is serious money… Experts told me that it would have cost us between Sh700m and Sh800m to upgrade the system running NHIF, yet we’re moving to a new program costing us Sh104bn.” Rigathi Gachagua

The seasoned politician further stated that he couldn’t defend corruption in a government that he served as Deputy President. As such, Gachagua said that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki should go ahead and defend corruption in President Ruto’s administration if he wishes to do so.

Additionally, Rigathi Gachagua slammed the government for its involvement in the Adani deal. He alleged that they never discussed the Adani deal at the time he chaired the subcommittee in the office. This comes just few days after President William Ruto canceled the Adani deal.
