Romantic relationships between workmates have been a habit that has existed for a long period of time. This trend has not only been experienced in Kenya but across the world.
However, it has been less common for a boss to fall in love with or even marry his or her junior. This habit is widely frowned upon at work, yet a number Kenyan celebrities boldly get into romantic relationships with their bosses or seniors.
Some of these relationships have faced challenges, forcing the couples to separate, but others have been successes.

Kate the Actress and Philip Karanja
Kate the Actress, real name Catherine Kamau, is an actress and content creator, and she first met Philip Karanja over a decade ago on the mother-in-law’s set.

At the time, Phillip Karanja was the production manager and director for not only Mother-in-Law but also Tahidi High.
On the other hand, Kate was just an actor; she played Selina in the Citizen TV series. In short, Phillip was Kate’s boss, but this did not stop them from falling in love.
After several years of friendship and courtship, the two celebrities married in a colorful wedding ceremony on September 17, 2017. Unfortunately, their marriage survived for around 7 years, as they confirmed their divorce through a joint statement earlier in 2023.

Vivian and Sam West
Vivian Wambui, a renowned female musician in Kenya, was married to Sam West, her former manager, for just a few years. Before their marriage, the two worked together, where Sam managed Vivian’s music career.

Their relationship became public when Sam West proposed to her on live television, and they immediately started living together as husband and wife.

Sadly, their marriage came to an end within a few years, with the musician claiming that she just accepted her boss’ proposal because it was live on TV. On the other hand, Sam alleged that he was never married to the singer.
Amina Abdi Rabar and DJ John
The Kenyan celebrity couple first met at Homeboyz Radio, where DJ John was the boss at the time while Amina was a junior worker.
However, their encounter was not very impressive, as DJ John never spoke to Amina Abdi at first sight. The DJ was also very strict at work, and this made the media personality fear her future husband.

“I had just started working there when we met. John never talked to people much; he never spoke a word to me. Maybe it’s because of how I dressed. I was shady and broke. I really feared him. He was very strict with work.”
Amina recalls, as quoted by Pulse Kenya.
Years later, they had already become friends, and DJ John Rabar asked Amina for a date, which would be a turning point in their relationship.
In 2012, they got into a serious relationship, and the renowned DJ pushed Amina to her limits, encouraging her to pursue bigger jobs.

This really helped her, as she is now renowned for hosting several TV and radio shows, including NTV’s Friday show, The Trend, and Alfajiri at K24.
