Celebrity marriages in Kenya are often characterized by posh church weddings and extravagant receptions. To add to the glamour that characterises such high-profile unions, these events also spark widespread media buzz.
While a handful navigate the rough marital terrain, a number does not last. Here are three that shockingly crumbled within their first few months.
Mung’ala Mbuvi
In 2015, Mbuvi wedded his long-time fiancée in a glamorous church ceremony. It is strange to say, but Mbuvi’s marriage crumbled within six months after the couple tied a knot. While revealing the fallout during a subsequent interview, the former K24 media personality was full of regret.
“It is so unfortunate that my marriage had to come to an end only a few months after our wedding. Even after trying to talk things out, it couldn’t work.” Mbuvi lamented.
According to Mbuvi, if only he had spared time to be with his wife, their marriage would still be intact. Mbuvi revealed that his wife had cheated, but he was the reason she did this.
“I don’t blame her for cheating. I was busy with my career at the expense of my marriage.” He regretted it.
DNG
In March 2015, Davidson Ngibuini married Yvette Nungari, a musician, in a star-studded wedding ceremony held at Fairmont Mount Safari Club. A few months into their marriage, the couple split, citing irreconcilable differences.
While opening up about the pain he underwent after the fallout, DNG highlighted the difficulties he went through balancing family, work, and fame. However, having learnt the hard way, he hoped for better relationships in the future.

Abbas Kubaff
In 2008, Abass, also known as Andrew Kabiru, tied the knot with his girlfriend in a lavish wedding that generated extensive media buzz. Less than 10 months into their marriage, the couple separated, citing distance among other personal differences.
While reminiscing on his failed marriage, Abass revealed how his busy career schedules destroyed his marriage.
According to marriage and relationship counsellor Moses Irungu, unlike ordinary marriages, most celebrity marriages often experience intersectional difficulties.
“In most cases, the honeymoon is overshadowed by external expectations.” Irungu says.
