Mbuvi Gideon Kioko commonly known as Mike Sonko is a popular Kenyan politician who served as the second Governor of Nairobi County after taking over from his predecessor Evans Kidero.
Sonko has always been a generous donor, even before he was elected Member of Parliament for Makadara during a by-election in 2010.
Before venturing into politics, Sonko ran a transport business together with his wife, Primrose Mbuvi, where they operated matatus on several routes in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

Sonko’s Home in Mua Hills, Machakos
Outside politics, the former Nairobi governor lives largely in an opulent home reportedly valued at KSh150 million, located on Mua Hills in Machakos County.
The palatial house features a gold-themed perimeter wall and prominently displays the name ‘Sonko’s Family Farm’ at the main entrance.
According to the Daily Nation, the home features a gold motif on its perimeter wall and prominently displays the words ‘Sonko’s Family Farm’ on its front.
This home was built while Mike Sonko was serving as Nairobi Senator, and it is reported that at the time he used his influence to have the route branching off Mombasa Road to his home and Kaseve tarmacked.
The castle of two floors mansion boasts a beige exterior, with some parts of the house spotting brown, tastefully designed bricks, that give it a tasty architectural finishing. The mansion lies under a red-tiled roof.
Getting into the luxurious home, one is welcomed by three lion sculptures on either side of the entrance. The sliding glass doors lead to a spacious lounge with beige leather couches.
Inside the compound, one is welcomed by a basketball court and an ostrich pen, as well as a mausoleum of the late Mzee Kioko Kivanguli, Sonko’s late father.
Additionally, Sonko’s Mua home has a sprawling farm where he grows vegetables and rears livestock.
