Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has signaled her ambition to vie for the presidential seat.

Speaking through her official Facebook page on Wednesday, 12th, Ruth, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s sister, stated that nothing will hinder her from running for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
“Nothing stops me from contesting for the presidency in 2027,” Ruth Odinga penned on Facebook.
Ruth Odinga’s remarks come weeks after the death of her elder brother and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga. Since his passing, divisions have emerged within the ODM camp over whether to back President William Ruto’s bid for a second term or field their own presidential candidate.
Which Way for ODM in 2027?
The ODM party appears to be at a crossroads following the passing of its leader, Raila Odinga, who had aligned the party with President William Ruto’s government. Before his death, Raila had stated that the party would support Ruto until 2027, after which a new direction would be determined.
Since his passing, two factions have emerged within the party, one pledging to support Ruto beyond 2027, and another insisting the partnership should only last until the next General Election.

Just a few weeks ago, acting ODM party leader Oburu Odinga stated that the 20-year-old party will either form the next government through its own presidential candidate or produce a running mate in the team expected to win the 2027 contest.
Raila Odinga used the ODM party, which enjoys massive support across the country, to vie for the presidential seat in four consecutive general elections. However, his demise means he will not be on the ballot in 2027. As a result, top contenders, including President William Ruto and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, are seeking to woo ODM supporters, citing their roles as some of the party’s founding members.
