Former Rarieda MP and Foreign Affairs Minister Raphael Tuju and his estranged wife, Ruth Akinyi, divorced over 10 years ago after 26 years of marriage.
The split came after Tuju claimed that his longtime wife, Akinyi, was having an affair with their bodyguard, the late Tony Ogunda, a GSU officer.

Ruth Akinyi’s life changed completely just a few years after her separation from the former Member of Parliament. According to The Standard, after Tuju and the mother of his three children divorced, her life shifted drastically, particularly financially.
The report states that Ruth Akinyi, striving to rebuild her life after the controversial divorce, opened a small hotel along Mombasa Road.
In the hotel, Akinyi prepares chapati, matumbo, liver, rice, and other foods for office workers near Mombasa Road.

“She gets to work at 10 am where she prepares chapati, matumbo, fish, liver, beef stew and rice using charcoal jikos before selling the delicacies to hungry office workers along Mombasa Road.” a source revealed according to the standard.
Contrast to her husband’s investment after the divorce
In a strange turn of events, Tuju, who made his money not only in politics but also in his earlier days in the media and has invested substantially in real estate, also opened the upscale Dari Restaurant in Karen after splitting from Akinyi.
At the time of the Standard’s report, Akinyi’s restaurant lacked comfortable cushioned seats and instead had plastic chairs, a stark contrast to her husband’s establishment, which features groomed grounds and engraved flatware.
