Since the passing of political heavyweight Raila Odinga in October last year, Kenya’s political landscape has undergone a dramatic change. While the late ODM boss had envisioned a harmonious continuity of the party, his untimely death has revealed new powerful entrants into the political scene.

Among these politicians is the vocal ODM secretary-general Edwin Sifuna. Using ‘Rebellion’ as his vehicle, Sifuna is becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Here are three reasons why Sifuna continues to shape Kenya’s political arena with his rebellious yet captivating nature.

Ability to Create Governance Roadmap

Despite posing as an opposer of Ruto-Raila broad-based arrangement, inside reports indicate that Sifuna is a core participant in the documents that formed it.

According to Gladys Wanga’s recent revelation, Sifuna is the primary architect of the 10-point agenda that engineered the broad-based government. Such ability gives him an advantage on the power negotiations table.

Viral Brand Architect

Since coming up with his “Mimi ndio Sifuna” mantra, Kenyans have been all over social media singing “Sisi ndio Sifuna”.

While critics were quick to dismiss his eventual appeal, the evergreen slogan revealed Sifuna’s relatability to Kenya’s urban voters.

Besides earlier dismissal, critics were shocked by his ability to speak directly to the youths without traditional media.

Devolution Watchdog

Even before he joined the trendy “Sisi ndio Sifuna” catchphrase, Sifuna was already defending Nairobi’s autonomy.

His stance came to light when he disagreed with the dubious partnership between the National Government and City Hall. Here, Sifuna positioned himself as a watchdog for the country’s devolution governance.

Despite what you think of him, Sifuna is a man on a mission. Differentiated by an unlikely blend of legal know-how and an unexpected mass appeal, Sifuna is definitely working to stamp his name in Kenya’s political scene.
