The idea that humility is a necessary quality of leadership would not be opposed by most people. But if you ask those same people to name a well-known leader, their answers would probably indicate the opposite: that the most iconic and archetypal leaders radiate conceit and haughtiness rather than humility or modesty.

Humble leaders, such as the one time Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, are regarded as more approachable, tolerant of errors, and eager to recognize the efforts of others.
This might inspire staff members to exchange ideas and put in more effort. With increased authority comes a greater need for humility in a leader.

Did you know that Uhuru Uhuru Kenyatta milked cows at Jirongo’s house?
Although Uhuru Kenyatta was born into a royal family, with his late father being Kenya’s first President, he is known for his humility, especially among his close friends and family.
The late Cyrus Jirongo expressed his surprise at seeing Mr. Kenyatta milking the cows all at once during a broadcast interview on KTN.
Jirongo, the late former Lugari Member of Parliament, recounted an incident in which Uhuru stayed overnight at his Kitale residence during one of the campaign periods.
When he woke up, he was surprised to see Uhuru Kenyatta busy tending to his cows and had even loaded the milk onto a pickup truck.
The late former Cabinet minister described Uhuru as a highly sociable and humble person.
“During the campaign, we spent a night at my home in Kitale. We stayed up late, and Uhuru went to sleep. At 6 a.m., Uhuru was already in my boma milking cows—something I had even forgotten how to do myself,” Jirongo said.
