Just like other politicians around the world, those of Kenya are known for driving top-tier vehicles that show the prestige that comes with leadership.

Given the sensitive nature of the security of the country’s top leaders, they often use cars that are heavily customized and fitted with unique accessories and amenities for enhanced safety as well as comfort.

Even though most of them aren’t allowed to drive themselves, this doesn’t stop them from riding in luxury cars packed with top security features.

Times Digital Kenya takes a look at the elite cars that transport some of Kenya’s most powerful politicians: President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uhuru Kenyatta’s Car Collection

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was brought up in a well-established family, is among the top Kenyan politicians who own numerous high-end cars.

His car collection includes an armoured Mercedes G-Wagon, which appears to be one of his favourites due to its heavy armour. Its base price is around Sh15 million but can go up to Sh50 million.

Other high-end cars in his fleet include Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Land Cruiser, Mercedes limousine, and an open-top Land Cruiser.

In addition to his private cars, Uhuru Kenyatta is assigned other vehicles by the government as retirement benefits. Cars in his name include two Toyota Land Cruisers, one Mercedes-Benz, four Toyota Prados, two Range Rovers, and one Subaru Forester. These vehicles are fully maintained and fueled by the Government of Kenya.

William Ruto’s Car Collection

President William Ruto is another Kenyan politician well known for his love of cars. His car collection includes high-end cars and armoured security vehicles.

One of the most notable is the 2024 Lexus LX600. It is valued at approximately KSh30 million. President Ruto famously drove the Lexus LX600 during the WRC Safari Rally flag-off, and since then it has been one of the most talked-about vehicles in his collection.

Another is the Lexus LX570, which is mainly used as his daily official SUV. The list doesn’t end there; he also owns a Mercedes-Benz Maybach Pullman, an INEOS Grenadier 4×4, and a Mercedes-Benz S560.
