There has been alleged forgery concerning the will of the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, with accusations pointing to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as being behind the manipulation that allegedly made him the majority beneficiary of his late brother’s wealth.
According to recent reports, the family of Nderitu Gachagua claims that a purportedly doctored will has subjected them to years of tribulation since the death of their patriarch. The family, led by widow Margaret Nyokabi Nderitu and her four children, has appealed to the head of state, President William Ruto, for justice.
They argue that a brother of the late Nderitu used political influence to disinherit what was rightfully theirs from the late Governor.
To defend himself against the accusations, while speaking on the Iko Nini podcast on 27 March, Rigathi Gachagua clarified how the late Nyeri Governor distributed his wealth.
The former Deputy President stated that the will left by his brother was one of the most advanced in Kenya in terms of how wealth was distributed among the family. As such, Gachagua noted that it is now being studied at the Kenya School of Law.
“The late Nderitu Gachagua, who died in 2017, left a will that is now studied at the Kenya School of Law as one of the most advanced in the Republic of Kenya, taking care of everyone,” he said.
While breaking down how the wealth was distributed, Gachagua explained that Nderitu left his property to everyone in the family, including his two wives and four children, as well as two other women he had been involved with, along with their children.
Aside from his immediate family, he also included his siblings and mother, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 21.
“In his will, the late Nderitu left his property to everybody—not just his wife and children. In fact, he included his two wives and four children. He also included two other women he had in his life, together with their children. Additionally, he left a share of his wealth to his brothers and sisters, bringing the total to 21 beneficiaries,” Rigathi Gachagua said
As per Gachagua’s narration, Nderitu requested that his property, valued at around Shs 2 billion, be sold and the proceeds distributed to the beneficiaries according to a formula he had specified.
“In the will, he instructed that all his property be sold and the proceeds distributed to the beneficiaries in a formula he put down. Some of those listed were to receive 10%, others 5%, others 3%, and others 2%,” Gachagua added.
