Dropping out of school is not the end of life. In fact, it is an opportunity to explore other means of livelihood.
In Kenya’s political landscape, there are a number of politicians who dropped out of school.
However, that never blocked their way to success. That serves as a good example to each and every child out there who may face similar challenges.
Some of the politicians in Kenya may have dropped out of school at some point but they are now successful. They include former prime minister Raila Odinga, ex-CS Aisha Jumwa, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and Njenga Karume, just to name a few.
Kenyan Politicians Who dropped out of school
Aisha Jumwa
The former CS of was born in 1975 in Coast, after which she attended school at Takanga Primary School before transitioning to Murray Secondary School. Later on, she proceeded to Ganze Secondary, where she was forced to drop out of Form Two due to lack of school fees. It was during this hard time that she gave birth to her firstborn before embarking on school.
Njenga Karume
Njenga Karume’s dreams of being admitted to Mangu High School were shuttered by his father. This is after his dad told him that there were other children in line and he could not be educated alone.
In addition, Karume’s father was influenced to make that decision by his close friends, who saw education as a waste of resources.
Previously, Karume had attended Kahuho primary school in Kikuyu before joining Kiambaa Riara School, where he sat for his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) exam.
Ali Hassan Joho
During the recent CS’ vetting at the senate, the 47-year-old politician revealed that he dropped out of school for one year before going back.
What most people don’t know is that the one-time governor used to carry sacks at the port to raise school fees and support his family.
Raila Odinga
What most people don’t know is that Raila Odinga dropped out of school while in Maranda Secondary in 1962 to join the Herder Institute, a part of the philological faculty at the University of Leipzig in East Germany.
Oscar Sudi
Reports have it that Kapseret Oscar Sudi is a class 7 dropout.
According to Derrick Kaisha (investigating officer), the only records that were found of Sudi being a student was at Luok Ngetuny Primary School, where the teachers verified that he joined in 1995. Nevertheless, he left the institution at standard seven.
