Restaurant Where Monkeys Work as Waiters

When you go to a restaurant in your country or even abroad you’ll expect to be served by a human waiter but that’s not the case at The Kayabukiya Tavern.

Before you even get inside this restaurant you will be quick to judge it due to its traditional style which has been maintained for over 30 years. 

After stepping inside the restaurant, you will be surprised to see monkeys moving up and down serving each and every customer.

In which country do monkeys work as waiters?

Located in Japan, Kayabukiya Tavern is a beautiful restaurant that has hired several macaque monkeys as waiters.

It is owned by Kaoru Otsuka, a business person who turned the monkeys from being his pets to waiters.

This actually happened after one of her monkeys (Fuku-chan) surprisingly took a napkin to one of the restaurant’s tables on his own (mimicking a human waiter). 

Since then, Kaoru Otsuka decided to turn more of her monkeys to waiters who have been serving customers for over 3 decades now. 

How the monkeys work at Kayabukiya Tavern restaurant

The Financial Express reports that these ‘unique’ waiters are prone to mistakes and that they aren’t perfect as a human waiter would be. 

However due to their services being rare, people from across the world travel to the restaurant only to be served by the monkey waiters.

During working hours, the monkeys wear checkered waiter’s shirts as they perform different roles in the restaurant which include serving beer to guests and also fetching napkins meant for dinner.
