Over the past few weeks, the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s family has been in the spotlight due to a dispute over how wealth was distributed in his will.
After his death in 2017, Nderitu left behind four children with his wife, Margaret Nyokabi Nderitu, whom he also included, along with others, as beneficiaries of his properties, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to around 21.
Among his children, his firstborn, Ken Nderitu, is considered, according to tradition, the primary heir of the wealth left behind.
Apart from inheritance issues, just three years after his father passed away, he married the love of his life. Now, with his marriage approaching six years, Times Digital Kenya takes a look back at how the wedding went down and the special guests who were in attendance.
Ken Nderitu’s wedding ceremony
The late Nderitu Gachagua’s son, Ken, officially married Esther Amanya, his long-time girlfriend, in October 2020.
The colourful event, held in Nairobi County, was graced by high-profile guests, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who at the time was the Mathira Member of Parliament.

Also in attendance were Gachagua’s wife, Dorcas Rigathi, and their sons, as well as former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.
The theme of the wedding was striking, with the bride, Esther Amanya, in a radiant flowing wedding gown, while Ken Nderitu wore a white African suit paired with a matching black cap.
After the event, Rigathi Gachagua wished Ken and his wife a successful marriage.

“I wish Ken and Esther a successful marriage full of love and God’s blessings,” Rigathi said at the time.
It is now almost six years since the wedding ceremony, but the couple has maintained a low-key life, with little information available about their progress.
