Esther Akoth, popularly known by her stage name Akothee, has raised concerns over what she describes as increasing disrespect toward the late Raila Odinga’s family since his death.

Speaking through her social media pages on Monday 17th, the outspoken musician noted that although it has been barely a month since Raila’s passing, his family is already facing insults and public disgrace.

Akothee went on to question the loyalty of Odinga’s close allies, saying she has learned a lot from observing how they have behaved since his departure.
She added that instead of rallying behind Raila’s children, some people are treating the late ODM leader as though he remains a threat even in death.

“It’s hardly a month, and they have started insulting and disgracing your family. I question their love and loyalty to you, BABA. I have really learned a lot from your departure. It was the package of the goodies you brought home that was loved. If not, we would still embrace, love, and support your children, but now it’s like you are dead and still left a threat.” Akothee Said.
Akothee’s remarks come at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is marking its 20th anniversary, a celebration that has also exposed deepening internal wrangles among party members.

The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga died on October 15, 2025, and since then, leaders from across the political divide have seemingly used his departure as a stepping stone in their political careers.
This comes as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election, keeping in mind that Raila had a huge following not only in the Luo Nyanza region but across the country. ODM, the party that Raila Odinga led for nearly 20 years, is expected to play a key role in the polls.
