County askaris popularly known as Kanjo are well known for not being friendly with hawkers in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

The Kanjos are always accused for their brutality when handling wrong doers or those who are caught on the wrong side of the law.

A good example is when a county askari went viral in Kenya after encountering a tik toker,
The tik toker accused the officer of getting into her car without permission hence locked him in the vehicle. The incident might have proved how some of the Kanjo askaris treat some Kenyans in the CBD.
What is the work of county askaris / Kanjo askaris?
The Kanjo are mandated to provide security to county government properties. Also the county askaris who is on duty is supposed to stop any suspects of acts that are not allowed by the county law.

The officers also have power to arrest anyone accused by someone of breaching county law.
On the other hand, the Kanjo/county askaris are not supposed to handle any person with brutality or using excessive force.
“An officer who subjects a person to the above shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a minimum term of 25 years,”
Nairobi city county inspectorate Act, 2017 reads.
How much is Kanjo paid in Kenya?/ How much do county askaris get paid?
According to Tuko News, the Kanjo job is one of the worst paying jobs in Kenya.

Despite them working for the county government, Kanjo salary ranges from Ksh 12,000 to 14,000.
