Kamiti prison is a well known correctional center in Kenya where the most infamous criminals are locked up.
However, you would doubt it if you heard that Kamiti Maximum Prison offers some luxurious services to its inmates.

Kamiti Prison location and When it was started
Kamiti Maximum Security Prison which is located in Kamiti road, Kahawa West was established by British colonial administrators in 1955 as a facility for detaining criminals during a state of emergency.
Over time, the facility developed to become one of the biggest prison complexes in the country.
Flush toilets in Kamiti Prison
A small number of people have access to several luxurious services at Kamiti Prison, while many live in squalor.
Gilbert Deya, a controversial televangelist, was amazed when he was detained in the facility after being extradited from Britain in 2017.
Deya was detained at the punishment block where some famous politicians in Kenya such former prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kenneth Matiba were jailed.
However, just after a few days of spending time at the ward in Kamiti prison , Deya was allowed to install a flush toilet there.
In addition to putting in the flush toilet in his ward, he also had nine others installed in the neighboring wards, providing Kamiti a sense of luxury in jail where prisoners could now help themselves with ‘honor’.
Kamiti Prison Luxurious lifestyle
According to The Standard, there are at least 50 TV sets in Kamiti prison and they are distributed in several wards.
As per the report, the wing that has terror suspects, Ward F, G and isolation have only one TV set each while other wards such as A, D and E having 10,4 and 2 TVs consecutively.
With all of the above, Pastor Deya now suggests that Kamiti Maximum prison, where he spent nine months in prison, is superior to British prisons.
