Goldalyn Kakuya clasped the nation wide attention with her dazzling performance in the 2017 Kenya Certificate Of Primary Education examination when she achieved 455 marks out of 500. She sat her KCPE exams at St Anne’s Academy in Kakamega County.

Four years later, most of the Kenyans who still recalled her were waiting to hear her name when the one-time Education Cabinet Secretary, the late Prof George Magoha, announced the 2021 KCSE outcomes. However, her name was not in the list.

Why Kakuya didn’t sit for KCSE
Interestingly, Kakuya didn’t take the 2021 KCSE because she switched from 8-4-4 to the IGCSE system. Margaret Kenyatta (the immediate former first lady) reimbursed for her schooling at Brook House School, Karen. She studied for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) there.

She shifted from to a prestigious school one year after starting at Kenya High School in 2018.
Kakuya left Kenya High School and moved to Year 10, which is the same level as the class she was in under the 8-4-4 system.

She is the first girl with albinism to do really well on the KCPE exams.

Kakuya retained her high educational standards even under the new IGCSE system. She finished behind Sean Theuri in the school’s Year 11 exams in 2020 and was ranked second.

Goldalyn had outstanding grades in the year’s exams, earning eight A*s and two As. The school offers nine-course alternatives, with maths, English language, English literature, and at least one science required.
