Despite not being good friends, both have enjoyed successful careers in their respective musical journeys. However, it’s a fact that both artists came from humble beginnings before rising to stardom in the music industry. But the story of his ascent to grace began with a blade of grass.He worked as a fueling station attendant, sold used clothing (mitumba), and was a freelance photographer before recognition, endorsements, and wealth came his way. 

In 2007, he used these jobs to save money for studio sessions. Diamond Platnumz even promised his mother that he would open a salon for her, having previously worked at one.

“Nakumbuka Mwaka Mmoja wakati unafanya kazi ya Saloon kariakoo, tukiwa tunarudi usiku majira kama ya saa sita hivi kwenye Daladala nikakwambia “Usijali mama Kuna siku nitatoboa kwenye muziki na nitakufungulia na wewe Saloon yako..” Diamond said during a past interview.

Today, Diamond Platnumz is one of the most successful musicians in East Africa, with his music being heard across the African continent.

Ali Kiba before fame 

In his early years, Ali Kiba enjoyed dancing and listening to music.

While in school, he used to take part in theatre singing shows, where he would sing and dance with his friends.

Soon after completing his 12th-grade exams, he decided to pursue a career as a musician and songwriter. It is highly commendable that he quickly wrote “Maria,” the first song of his career. Later that same year, he began working on his debut album.

In order to advance his career in the music industry, he turned down the opportunity to play soccer for the Ugandan squad in 2005. He made the decision to focus more on writing and singing than on playing football.

Now years down the line, Just like Diamond, Ali Kiba is also very successful in his music career. However, their supremacy and ‘fierce’ rivalry in music have overshadowed their humble backgrounds.
