Just hours before his death in a helicopter accident, Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno shared a post on his social media pages, which would eventually be his last while alive.

In a post seen by Times Digital Kenya, just four hours before he passed away on the evening of Saturday, February 28, Ngeno had announced his arrival at Kapkugo, Tulwop Kony, Endebes, where he joined friends, supporters, and other leaders.

The lawmaker attended the event to celebrate Artist Kim Kim’s remarkable 35th anniversary in the music industry.
Unaware that it would be his last post before the tragic accident, the MP was in a celebratory mood.

“I have just arrived at Kapkugo, Tulwop Kony, Endebes, to join friends, fans, and fellow leaders in celebrating Artist Kim Kim’s remarkable 35th anniversary in the music industry,” Ngeno wrote on his social media pages.

Earlier in the day, on the morning of Saturday, he met the families of the late Snr Chief Ole Rurumo and Ole Kipembeu, as well as the search and rescue team at Mara Rianta.

He was clearly on a mission he described in his own words: to stand in solidarity and help retrieve the bodies of two young men whose vehicle was swept away by the raging waters of the Mara River on Sunday night.

“My heart goes out to the families affected as they endure this painful and uncertain moment. I also urge the public to remain vigilant during this rainy season, particularly around flooded rivers and roads. Let us all exercise caution and prioritize the safety of our communities,” Ngeno said.

Following the announcement of his death, Kenyans on social media flocked to the comment section of his post, with most pouring out heartfelt condolences.

Some wondered how death could claim someone just hours after he was seen in a jovial mood. Here are some of the reactions:

@Triza Wainaina wondered how he was gone just five hours after making the post: “Ngai, after 5 hours you’re no more.”

@Asiago Brian wrote: “Then a few moments later you are no more. Surely, what is life!”

@Hope Vevary Naliaka Wakoli noted that the MP appeared disturbed at the event: “He looked disturbed.”

@Benson Kibowen commented: “…and this was his last day on PLANET Earth.”

@Marah Clarah said that despite having a long, hectic day, she was devastated to open Facebook and find the sad news of Ngeno’s death: “After having a hectic day, only to open Facebook and find… rest in peace.”

Johanna Ngeno was involved in the plane crash that occurred in Nandi, which left others who were in his company feared dead.
